31 days ago, I quit smoking... Some days are better than others, and some days are worse than others. The need for nicotine is controllable with nicotine chewing gum. The habit is harder to kick. I do my best to control it with ordinary chewing gum, and basically anything eatable I can get my hands on. The mood can be really low some days. The motivation is still going strong, though.1. Stick with it. I smoked on and off for 25 years, mostly on and was an expert at giving them up - the problem was keeping off them. I'm off them nearly 2 years now but I know that I can never have so much as a puff of one ever again, if I do that it's downhill all the way.
After a a few months you stop thinking about them, a few more months and the dreaming about them stops.
Good luck!

@Gary - Thanx, I'm gonna stick with it. Like you, I don't expect I can ever try one again, or I'll be stuck in the habit again...

Crossing my fingers for you because I know how difficult it is. I quit for three years (and gained a lot of weight) but couldn't resist "just trying one", after which I am back at it.

Stay with it! It's so easy to fall back into it. For the most part, I've been good for a couple of years now, but you can do it! But get off the gum ASAP! It will only lead you to become addicted to that. Trust me, I know.

@All of you - Thanks for your support! It's really appreciated.
@Jan-Piet - If you could do it for three years before, then you can do it again, permanently this time!
I'm also gaining weight. As I said, I'm eating anything within reach. Actually, I don't really care about it. I'll just have to deal with one vice at the time.
@Andy - So far I really need the gum, but I don't use much of it. Only 2 to 3 pieces per day, of the weakest kind. I will be kicking that habit as well.

Stick with it! I gave up (again) in July. Now I have been thru it all gum, patches the full array over the last 10 years with no great success. We go a new doctor at the local practice and he put me on Champix which isnt it has to be said for everyone and should really only be done thru your doctor! However it has been a revelation for me.. it totally removed the urge to smoke and the cravings went after 2 weeks. I dont really care how it works but it did. Might be worth talking to your Doctor about it.
Bill Buchan gave it a go and it worked for him too.!
Anyway WELL DONE! Keep it up!
Steve

@Steve - I'm definitely sticking with it! If it doesn't work, I'll check out Champix. Thanx!
