I don't know how or why, but I missed it. Chris warned about it way ahead of time, and I still missed it.

So what is "it"? "It" is the blacklist relays.ordb.org, and it was announced a long time ago, that they were closing down. So some e-mails didn't get to my server. Since I am using a private whitelist, it wasn't immediately obvious that e-mail was bouncing, since some e-mails got through.

As Chris puts it:
This is simply a reminder to lazy or incompetent administrators to manage their use of DNSBLs actively. You can't just define once a list of DNSBL zones you want to use for email blocking and then leave it unmaintained.
Now, does this make me lazy or incompetent? Lazy, I think.

Anyway, now it's fixed, and e-mail is flowing as it should again. If anyone has been sending e-mail to me during the last couple of days, and got a bounce message back, please try again.

It would seem that Steve Castledine has some spam problems on his Domino server. Well, we all know where to go when we have this kind of problem, don't we?

I give up! I've closed the old guestbook for this site, since I've grown tired of constantly cleaning out guestbook spam. I also closed the Links section while being at it.. To the serious people that posted on the guestbook, thanks! It has not been deleted, just closed.

Colin Williams is having serious problems with comment SPAM, and has been forced to close down his blog. The cost of traffic has become too high to sustain it. From the statistics he displays on the blog, the culprit is comment SPAM.

So long, Colin, and I hope you find a better blogging host to continue your blog.

PermaLink Comment SPAM...2006-08-27 14:13

What is it with these SPAMmers? Why do they keep SPAMming in places where their SPAM doesn't even get published?

I have this blog, and I frequently get SPAM comments where the commenters' e-mail addresses always ends with @blader.com. I haven't modified the Blogsphere template at all, but it still blocks these SPAM comments. Thanks for that! I also have a couple of guestbooks on other sites that gets SPAMmed every day. I have modified my guestbook template so that it doesn't publish SPAM comments, so they are never visible. But why do they continue? Not getting any result from their comment adding, one would think that they would give up. I would...

Today, there are 30 new SPAM comments on the blog. They aren't published, but I still have to go in and delete them.

They are getting on my nerves...
