Mary Beth Raven asks what we think about changing the Notes view selection gutter, but since I don't seem to be able to post a comment to her blog, I'll post my comment here instead. I don't know how the few others that has commented on the blog succeeded though.
During the 2006 Lotusphere keynote, Jeff Eisen announced that the Hannover release would use "system selection" rather than the Notes selection model. If was met with a resounding round of applause.
Is there anybody out there who PREFERS the Notes selection model? If so, why? We are working on a user preference which allows Samantha to revert back to the Notes selection model (well, Samantha woudd never revert to it, but maybe somebody else might).
The best thing about the Notes selection model was the "selection gutter" where you could click "on" a little check mark to see that you had selected something. Compared to using CTRL + Click for selecting a bunch of things all over the place, I think this is quite nice.
I love the checkmarks, and I don't want to lose them, but I think that shift+click is really necessary. If you have a view with 10 000 documents, and you have to select the bottom 5000 of them, you can be stuck with your finger on the mouse button for several minutes trying to select all of them with the check mark.
